At the BASBC AGM on 1st July, the membership voted for well known photographer Alan Robinson to serve as the Club's new president and the Committee is delighted to announce Alan's formal acceptance. The Club welcomes Alan to the role and would like to wish him all the best during his term of office.

At the June 20 2007 GCCF Council Meeting, the GCCF approved the recognition in the Asian Group colours of Cinnamon and Fawn with immediate effect, along with the proposed amendments to the Registration Policy. Furthermore, the revised Asian Standard of Points was accepted and will take effect at the beginning of the next Show Year, that is from 1st June 2008. The Asian Group clubs and BAC have all been working very hard behind-the-scenes to achieve this so congratulations to the Committees and the supporting memberships for all their hard work.

RIP Ch Vervain Calamondin

We are sad to report that Ch Vervain Calamondin (72 45q, MN, "Monty" to his friends) passed away today from renal failure. Bred by Club member Naomi Johnson, Monty made history by becoming the first GCCF Asian Champion – the first titled Asian – in 1997. He had also been the first Asian to win 3 ICs and was shown right through from Preliminary recognition to Championship status. Monty was born on March 23rd 1993 and so was just over 13 years old. He will be missed.

We can now place photographs on the kitten register and stud list pages. If you are a Club member who wishes to place – or who already has – an entry on the kitten register or stud list, please feel free to send us photographs of the kitten(s) or cat(s) concerned. We undertake not to use such images for any other purpose unless you specify otherwise.

Please note that for asthetic and page layout reasons, it is not easy for us to accommodate square or portrait images on our web site other than on the main photo gallery and even there, it is usually much easier to accommodate landscape images. Of course, we recognise that some situations to be photographed are inherently portrait in nature; however, we would appreciate it if images supplied to the Club for use on the web site are landscape images wherever they reasonably can be.

We have now updated the Show News page with some photographs from our 2005 and 2003 exemption shows that were originally omitted due to lack of space. Most were taken by Jon Trotter or Jacki McCarten; some by Sharon Keenan and a few by Martin Howe. We hope you enjoy them!

Web Site Change

We have moved our web site to a new hosting and domain service provider, which will increase our capacity to host the photo gallery and allow other improvements. If you find any broken links or other problems, then please inform the Webmaster as soon as possible. We intend to have an improved photo gallery, with more content, multiple resolutions (to suit different connection speeds) and thumbnail preview. Much work is involved, so these improvements will not happen immediately, but please bear with us; they will be gradually introduced as time progresses. If you found our page via a search engine – for example, after a link in your bookmarks or favorites failed – then please note that any link to our home page should be stored as http://www.bombaybreedclub.org with no index or default page included. As with all web sites, the actual home page itself could be called "default.htm", "index.htm", "home.shtml" or any one of several possible variations; in fact, even these could vary as new features are added to the site or for service-provider-related reasons. By using the domain URL alone, you ensure that your browser will always be able to find our page in the future.

RIP Pr Onika Black Benbecula

We are sad to report that Pr Onika Blackbenbecula (72, MN, "Ben" to his friends, bred by Monica Whitaker and owned by Sarah Fowler) was killed in a road traffic accident yesterday. A much-loved pet, Ben was also one certificate away from Grand Premier. Our condolences go out to Sarah who said, in the words of John Le Mesurier, "He sadly misses family and friends."

Please Note

At our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 22nd July 2001, the Club announced the result of a postal ballot of the membership regarding a proposed name change. The Club is now to be know as the Bombay and Asian Self Breed Club. A full press-release will be made by the Club in due course, but in brief, this decision was taken in order to reflect the fact that the Asian Self breed now comprises many colours in addition to the original (black) Bombay.

Please note that it will take some time to change all the references to "Bombay Breed Club" that exist in Club literature, both in electronic and traditional media and we ask you to bear with us. Our web site address will remain www.bombaybreedclub.org for the foreseeable future, although we may in due course consider setting up an additional domain to reflect the name change. In other respects the Club is unchanged and will continue to function normally.

Just a Reminder

As preventative maintenance and as part of our efforts to make the site easier to access, we have acquired a new web site address: www.bombaybreedclub.org. This is shorter than the previous address and represents our name more accurately. The current addresses will be valid at least until the end of October 2001, but we cannot guarantee that they will work after that, so please update your bookmarks before continuing. Thank you very much – we hope you enjoy the site!

Please discontinue use of all other addresses for us; our address has changed to www.bombaybreedclub.org

Bombays the World over!

Did you know that there is an antipodean version of the Asian Self? Recently joining the club is Carol Gray of the AtaCat Cattery in New Zealand. I had heard of the Mandalays but not encountered a web site devoted to them before.

The Burmese colours are a little differently defined there in that many of the what we would call "Asian" colours are grouped under the Burmese banner, such as "seal tabby". However, due to the efforts of an enterprising black mongrel tomcat a few years ago there arose a "Black Burmese (27z)", now known as the Ebony Mandalay – a Bombay in all but name (look at the pictures on Carol's web site to see just how true that is).

It is nice to see cats like ours being developed "in parallel" with them, even on the "other side of the world", so good luck to Carol and the others breeders. In the meantime, why not have a look at her web site to find out more.

First Challenge Certificates for Asian Selfs!

Well, here's some very good news – at the Somerset Cat Club Show on Saturday (3rd June), Boronga Cream Solastar and Balqama Black Biambe won first Challenge certificates for the Asian Selfs. This award has taken 15 years to achieve since Pat Impson started breeding these cats and has involved much support from Margaret Somers, early Bombay breeders and the others that have followed in their footsteps.

It is also fair and proper to acknowledge the ground work laid by the Asian Group Cat Society who were affiliated before we were and of which many of us are also members. Although using mostly Burmilla-derived lines, they did the procedural work in getting the Selfs to Championship Status.

Thanks to all for a good job!

Winner takes all!

The Asian Group Breed Advisory Committee held it's annual Seminar at the Wollaton Hall Community Centre, Nottingham this Sunday in which several Asian Group cats were put on exhibition. The intent was to inform interested parties – judges and breeders – of how the Asian Group Standard of Points amendments should work in practice.

We all took it in turns to "judge" each cat, mostly on the coat, and see if a consensus emerged. Several useful points came to light and everybody seemed to come away having learned something.

The cats on exhibition ranged from pet- to show- quality, but with one overall very good showing cat, part of the exercise being to identify which cat this was. The "winner", by a very large majority was Trotkatz Dippledapple (72e), a full-expression black tortie, so congratulations to Jon Trotter!

Founder

At the Wessex Cat Club show on 4th March, Boronga Cream Solastar (72f), an Asian Cream Self, won Best in Show Foreign Kitten. Tara, as she is known to her friends, is daughter of UK Gr Ch Tribune Solar Flair and Boronga Red Sunqueen (72d).

What makes this special is that Tara was bred by Pat Impson who was not only a founder member of the Bombay and Asian Self Breed Club, but also it's first President. More importantly, Pat was one of the very early breeders of Asian Selfs, from whom most of the current generation of self breeders can trace their lines

Pat was pleased to tears on hearing this, but as she is now in her 80's, she has decided to take a break and so Tara now lives in Dorset, with Jennie Quiddington, who hopes to continue on with Pat's line.

Supremely Great

The Bombay and Asian Self Breed Club was at the GCCF Supreme Show 1999 at Birmingham NEC on 20th November last year. A good time was had by all. Congratulations to the various prize winners, but the really good news is that the Supreme Provisional Breed Exhibit award was won by a Bombay – again! Last year it was Carolyn Clark's Hurtlepuss Black Adonis (72) or Danny, as he is known to his friends; this year it was Carolyn's own-bred Chinkara Onemanband (72) – Danny's son, or Harry to his friends! Looks like excellence runs in that family. Now that we have Championship status here's hoping for more successes for the Bombays.

We Belong!

At the meeting of 27th October 1999, the Bombay and Asian Self Breed Club was awarded affiliation to the GCCF! We have been working hard towards this so congratulations to the Committee and the supporting membership for all their hard work. Now we really can plot a very bright future for this very special breed.

It's Champion!

Also at the meeting of 27th October 1999, GCCF awarded the Asian Selfs Championship Status from the start of the 2000 show season; from June 2000, Bombays and the other Selfs can compete for full Championship honours! Thanks to all who show Bombays around the country, and also to the Asian Group Cat Society who did much of the early work.
